Lending a Gavel…

From time to time, I am invited to use my auctioneering skills to help a a charity raise much-needed money for their cause. Last Friday night, I attended the Lady Musgrave Trust’s Annual Cocktail Party at Blackbird in Brisbane’s CBD. My friend, Victoria Parker, is the CEO of the Trust, and she asked if I would lend a gavel and a voice to Kim Skubris, the event’s fabulous MC, by auctioning off their major donations.

The Lady Musgrave Trust was established in 1885 which makes it Queensland’s oldest charity. They are indomitable champions for homeless women, providing life-saving services to vulnerable women and their children when they are facing critical homeless situations as a result of domestic violence, family breakdown, poor health and other complex issues.

The Trust is only able to provide these vital services with the help of the community, donations and sponsorships. This year, thanks to the generous attendees and their bids, they managed to raise over $70 000! These much needed funds will go towards helping nearly 10,000 homeless women in Queensland get their lives, and the lives of their children, back on track.

The Lady Musgrave Trust believes, as do I, that all women deserve to feel safe and live a life free from hardship. It was an honour and a privilege to support the work Victoria does with Louise Kelly, the President, and their team.
